Chapel in the trees

Golden ambient glow is waking,
coating shades of green leaves with gold
Trees are still
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

Burgeoning light ignites
chatter, calls from the choir
Birds in full heavenly song
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

Congregants kneel in awe
Choir is in harmony, unison with the sun
Pristine orchard sanctuary
amongst the apples trees from bygone age
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

Up the path alders arching
to the outside world
Doe looks up, meanders off
Leafy corridor from another world
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

How I long to return this place of serenity
Sanctuary, still, calm,
Alter of nature's grace,
Respite until tomorrow's throng,
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

Sun high in the heavens
Chorus ebbs
Occasional call and random song
Breeze rustles through boughs
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

High up on the ridge
Fir trees bow to the wind
Then from the ridge behind
A creak, a crack, a crash, a bough breaks.
Oh, Chapel in the trees.

Sycamore seeds spiral down in their thousands.
Life from heaven
Settles on the ground
in hope of the next generation
Oh, Chapel in the trees.
